Today I started facing some problem, I bought a new Yamaha X-V463 receiver that has 2 HDMI in and 1 out, and I can see the video passing through the receiver to the TV but am not able to get the sound except via the laptop speakers. When I switch the receiver to my HDMI DVD player then I get video and sound.

An A/V receiver with two outputs may be a better option, as would powered HDMI splitters. Scott Wilkinson says that if the displays have different resolutions, it's likely the information is confusing the splitter, thereby it can't work. It's always best to have the same displays when splitting.
1: Turn off video processing in the amplifier. 2: Factory reset 'Initialize all'. Look up how to do it on-line, it should sort you out. If this doesn't work there's four potential issues –. A faulty HDMI cable from the amp to the TV – swap to double check.
